Po několikaleté pauze jsme se vypravili na Letecký Den do Salinas. Jelikož vládní šašci trvají na dramatických gestech s rozpočtem, všechny oficiální americké vojenské předváděčky, jako třeba Blue Angels, měly zaracha. Všechna čísla i vystavené exponáty byly tedy buď nevládní nebo kanadské.
Třebaže o dost méně impresivní než předchozí ročníky, tento populární letecký festival přesto nabídnul dostatek zajímavých zážitků pro děti i dospělé.

After several years' gap we ventured to an Air Show in Salinas. Since U.S. government clowns insist on dramatic gestures with the budget, all official military demos, e.g. Blue Angels, were grounded. Thus, all performers and displays were either non-government, or Canadian.
Despite being a lot less impressive than in previous years, this popular aviation festival still offered enough interesting things for children and adults alike.

Jedna provozní hodina tohoto MiG-17 prý přijde na 3 tisíce dolarů jenom v palivu - nepočítaje mechanika.

One flight hour of this MiG-17 is said to cost $3,000 in fuel alone - not including the mechanic.

Tento atraktivní cvičný stroj CT-155 Hawk byl jen vystavován.

Každá show v Salinas je nutně venkovskou taškařicí.
Když zrovna nejsou letadla, tak aspoň motorky akrobatické skupiny Metal Mulisha.

Every show in Salinas is necessarily a country spectacle.
When the planes are not flying, let the acrobatic group Metal Mulisha toss some dirt bikes in the air.

Robosaurus stands up.

Robosaurus se staví.

Požírá výhradně auta tuzemských značek.

He eats only domestic brands of cars.

Nesnáší maso. Je to tedy vegetarián.

He can't stand meat. This makes him a vegetarian.

Ale nemá rád auta syrová.

But he does not like cars raw.

Robosaurus si sám jídlo peče.

Robosaurus roasts his own food.

Jeho oběť se stává cvičným terčem pro místní hasiče.

His victim becomes a practice target for local firemen.

Vrcholným bodem programu je vždycky skupina stíhaček. Tentokrát se nám předvedli Patrioti, takto tým dříve vojenských pilotů z kalifornského Byronu, létající na československých strojích L-39 Albatros z Aero Vodochody.

The highlight of the show has always been a jet fighter group. This time we witnessed Patriots, a team of ex-military pilots from Byron, California, flying on Czechoslovak L-39 Albatross from Aero Vodochody.

Piloti na poslední chvíli procvičovali choreografii skupinových formací synchronním pobíháním po ploše.

Pilots practiced a last moment choreography of their group formations by synchronous running about the tarmac.

Zjevně biflovali vzájemné pozice a přeskupování. Vypadali trochu jako šílenci.

They obviously memorized mutual positions and re-grouping, looking a bit crazy.

Dva z šesti strojů měly dvoučlennou posádku, ostatní letěli sólo.

Two of the six machines had two-men crews, the rest flew solo.

A první čtyřka je ve vzduchu.

And the first quad is in the air.

Následují zbylí dva.

Two remaining follow.

Číslo šest se vždy držel trochu bokem, možná byl nový.

Number six held always a bit off, perhaps he was new.

Patriots.

Ve srovnáni s těžkými americkými stíhačkami minulých let, tyto cvičné stroje působily lehce, až křehce.

Compared to heavy American jet fighters of previous years, these training machines impressed as lightweigh, almost fragile.

Patriots zatančili čtverylku...

Patriots did a square dance...

...a namalovali na nebi srdce s šípem.

...and painted a broken heart in the sky.
